Christmas Collection on Santa's Sleigh !
In the evenings before Christmas Santa Claus can be seen touring the
streets in his sleigh with a team of Rotarian helpers (Elves are so difficult to come by), collecting
donations door-to-door for local good causes. You cannot miss him because his sleigh is brightly lit
up and you will hear Christmas carols and songs playing!
Santa and his reindeer have covered so many miles that last year
the sleigh's trailer wore out beyond repair. We were so fortunate
that the great people at
Wesbroom Engineering in Colchester made us
a super new, double-axle trailer.
The residents and staff at Acorn Village, who kindly store the sleigh and stable the reindeer, helped make the fantastic superstructure.

A lot of organising goes into this event to ensure that we visit as
many homes as we can. Last year we covered Mistley, Manningtree,
Lawford, Dedham and East Bergholt. If you are good, you might see him next
Christmas !
For nearly 25 years Santa and his helpers have been out for the two
weeks before Christmas and have raised thousands of pounds. Despite the cold and icy weather, we enjoy
it: Folk are pleased to see Santa and the look of amazement on the
children's faces is priceless. Even some of the grown-ups say that
they look forward to seeing us!
It is the Saturday before Christmas and Santa is on duty in Market
Place.
