Twinning and Exchange Programme
The Manningtree Stour Valley Rotary Club has a "Twin club" in
Frankenberg, Germany. We keep in contact and visit each other and,
in so doing, we play our part in maintaining the worldwide
fellowship of Rotary.
Members often visit other clubs when travelling away from home on
business or holiday and are always made welcome. "Wherever you go in
the world you are not alone if you are a Rotarian."
Frankenberg

Just
as the town of Manningtree is "twinned" with the town of
Frankenberg, so are the Rotary clubs. In May 2009 18 members of our club
spent four days as guests of the Frankenberg Rotary Club. It is in
the small medieval town with beautiful half timbered buildings and
is a delightful place to visit.
When clubs visit each other they usually exchange club pennants
to mark the occasion. You can see some of our own club's collection
here.
We were looked after so well, entertained at our hotel and taken to
interesting places, such as the "Nationalparkzentrum
Kellerwald" (a state-of-the-art ecological multimedia exhibition
with a "4-D" presentation) and a boat trip to view the famous Eidersee
Dam. Some of the Frankenberg club had previously stayed with us in
the UK and we visited their homes and ate with them.
You can see more pictures of Frankenberg in our
photo album.
Visitors
from the Rotary Club of Duibennvoorde, Netherlands visit
Manningtree

At the weekend 4th - 6 November 2011 we welcomed a visit from
Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Duibennvoorde, Netherlands.
Manningtree Stour Valley club members took our visitors on a tour of
the town given by Peter Gant from the
Manningtree Museum & Local
History Group. The
group met other Manningtree Rotarians at the Fiveways supermarket
where the Guy Fawkes collection was in full swing! (See picture).
In the afternoon the group went Colchester to see the Castle
and then the Dutch Quarter which our visitors were fascinated to
learn about. To prove that we don't only live in the past the group
the visited the brand new "First Site" arts centre in Colchester.
The day finished with a meal in "The Village Maid" in the village of
Bradfield.
On the second day the group enjoyed a visit to Dedham and Flatford
with a meal at Hall Farm in Stratford St. Mary.
All agreed that this was a wonderful example of Rotary fellowship
enjoyed throughout the Rotary world. Members of both clubs look
forward to further opportunities for fun and fellowship in the
future
