The "Tendring Young Musician of the Year" competition is open to anyone up to the age of 18 who lives or studies within Tendring or the surrounding area. It is an opportunity for young people to gain experience of performing in public. Not only is it great fun but there are cash prizes, a trophy and winning certificates. Also, the winner is eligible to represent Tendring in the Rotary District Competition held in Chelmsford Cathedral.

There are several classes within the 3-day event :

• Ensemble classes (up to 14 years, 14 to 18)
• Solo instrument classes (up to 13 years, 14 to 16, 17 to 18)
• Solo vocal classes (age groups according to entries)
